1.  Select a theme - If you are not having a party with a strong theme i.e. casino, luau, 50's, then select something simple like a color theme, shape theme (stars, circles).  Determining your theme from the beginning and repeating it throughout your party details will help make your party seem cohesive and well planned.

2.  Determining your colors - Monochromatic (using one color) is an easy and in expensive way to make a party/event feel elegant.  This is a great idea for business entertaining.  three color rule- limit the colors used for your party to three and repeat them often and throughout.  Using more than three colors becomes too busy and confusing to the eye.  Parties need to be a relaxed atmosphere.

3.  Less is More - If your party is in your home and you have a strong theme you may be better off removing some of your own home decor in the main party room to put more emphasis on your theme decor.  Sometimes this is necessary in other locations as well.  We have many times had to cover bingo boards, lodge emblems and photos and yes even basketball goals.
